Using templates when the menu is hard-coded

Shabnam Dec 04, 2013 01:59PM PST

Hi,

I'm using Mobify to build a mobile version of the website I work for. I hard-coded the menu because it wasn't picking up all the menu items. I created templates for the pages that the menu links to. However when I click on a Menu item it doesn't go to the template but goes to the webpage.

Also, does Mobify provide a "View full site" link on the mobile version of the website?

Thank you
Shabnam

Hi Shabnam,

Thanks for your questions.

It is possible to add a “View full site” link to your website. We have a great document here that explains how to add one to a template.

Normally hard coding URLs won’t stop templates from working, but because your site doesn’t have the Mobify tag installed yet you’re seeing different behaviour.

In order to show the mobile version of the page before the tag is installed, we run your site through our tag injector. In your case since the URLs in your navigation are absolute, those sites aren’t being run through our tag injector. This means the pages don’t have the Mobify tag on them, so you won’t see any of the template transformations.

Once you’ve installed the tag on your site you should no longer see this issue. In the meantime, switching the URLs in your navigation to relative should also solve the problem.

If you need some help getting the tag installed on your site, we have a document about it here.

Hope this helps,
Jennifer
