Switching from desktop to mobified

Peter Mar 25, 2014 10:09AM PDT

Hi,
Can someone help me with this problem? The problem happen in this order:
- If I visit my mobified site, mobify's cookies get stored.
- Then I publish newer bundle through mobify cloud and revisit the site it presents the desktop site instead.
- I then click on the link to view mobile site (which is this <a href="" onclick="document.cookie='mobify-path=;expires=Thu, 01 Jan 1970 00:00:01 GMT;path=/';location.reload()">View&nbsp;Mobile&nbsp;Site</a> ) but is not able to load up mobified site.
- I inspect element and find these value in the cookies; Name:mobify-path, Value:true, Domain:.paradefloatsuppliesnow.com, Path:/, Expires:Session, Size:15 B.
- It doesn't matter how many more time I click the link to view mobile site, mobified site will NOT load until I manually clear the cookies.

I can't expect my customer to manually clear their cookies, please tell me what did I do wrong and how to fix this issue.
Thanks

Hi Peter,

Thanks for the additional information! To elaborate a bit further, generally Mobify.js does not require cookies to operate. Cookies are set during development (i.e. when you are using Mobify Preview) or when a visitor to your site opts out of the mobile experience (i.e. by selecting a ‘View Desktop Site’ link).

In your case, since you usually preview the mobile site before publishing, it’s very likely that you had a preview cookie set which may have expired. This can result in the desktop experience being shown until the cookie is cleared (which is what I would suggest) or until you re-authorize your preview bundle (i.e. by visiting the Mobify Preview URL for your bundle, and pressing “Authorize”).

For your customers, they won’t face this type of issue as they will not have access to Mobify Preview bundles for your website. They should be able to select the ‘View Desktop Site’ and ‘View Mobile Site’ links without needing to clear cookies.

Does that help? Let me know if you need more information - here’s a support article on which cookies are set: https://support.mobify.com/customer/portal/articles/541572-what-cookies-does-mobify-js-set-

Hello,

Can you tell me a bit more about the problem? In particular, can you let me know what browser and OS you are using to visit the Mobified website (your first step)? Are you previewing the site when you’re doing this, or are you visiting the live mobile site?

I’ve taken a look at both the ‘View Mobile Site’ and ‘View Desktop Site’ links, and they appear to be working correctly. My guess is that the issue you’re experiencing is due to having previously previewed the site (which is why you would have cookies present). Note that your customers will not need to clear their cookies to visit the site, as they won’t have been previously using Mobify Preview to test or debug the mobile website. Only Mobify Preview needs to set cookies in the browser.

Thanks!

Hi MICHAEL,

Thank you for the quick respond.

I use iPod touch iOS 7 and Safari 7 with iOS 7 as user agent (from Dev. mode).
Yes I have used Mobify Preview most of the time before I publish new bundle. Can you elaborate on this? "...previously previewed the site (which is why you would have cookies present)" Aren't cookies present regardless of preview?

Thanks,

Just want to add another comment. I see that Mobify added a button on preview page to clear preview cookies. :)
